Hey Melissa, Do flashlights attract sharks? --Hariarty
This was actually tested by the MythBusters a few Shark Week runs ago. I believe they came up with a “yes,” when this was tested at night.
Hi Sarasota Fins: I heard that playing dead can confuse the shark and then make it not eat you. True or nah? Thanks, homies. James
First off: If a shark is gun-ho about taking a nibble to test you out, even playing dead won’t help you. However, thrashing around is associated with an injured fish, so your best bet is to swim in a calm manner if around a shark. Hopefully you're swimming with a buddy so you guys can swim back-to-back, both watching the shark, and get back to shore.
Can you poke a shark in the eye during an attack before it’s too late? -Cindy
Hi Melissa, With all the recent shark encounters (see, I'm learning!) at the beaches, I'm sort of scared to go into the water with my dog. Does your dog attract sharks? Thank you if you choose my question! Rebekah
This was actually tested by the MythBusters a few Shark Week runs ago as well. I believe the answer they came up with was “no,” however, it was a robotic dog. Their irregular paddling may attract a shark, but I haven’t heard of too many dog-shark encounters.
Thanks for your question!
Do magnets repel sharks? Thanks! xoxo, Shannone
Good questions, Shannone! Thanks!
Thanks for your questions & tune in next time!
